Core Classes “A Person’s a Person No Matter How Small”
Our Gang (6-7)
Teacher: Susan Comi
Let your imagination take flight into the world of theater as you visit the world of Dr. Seuss through song, music and dance. The fun never stops in Our Gang and includes theater basics while learning the foun- dations of performing in a safe, encouraging environment. We also take time for fun with games and crafts. Let your child take the spot- light! This age group is not eligible to audition for the show.
Do Re Mi - Core Voice - (8-18)
Teacher: TBD
This high energy, beginning voice class will teach students the basics of vocal health and good technique. Emphasis will be placed on proper breathing and support. Students will be encouraged to sing solos and learn how to have a confident audition.
Specialty Classes Danceland!
Beginning and Intermediate Dance - (8-18)
Teacher: Jillian Wylie
Prerequisite: None
Come and meet those dancing feet! This intermediate level class gets you prepared to perform all the basics of theater dance. Areas of study will include jazz, tap, and ballet, with a few hip-hop moves thrown in. Catch the beat, and start learning all the new dance moves today!
“Once Upon a Mattress”
Intermediate/Advanced Musical Theater- (12-18)
Teacher: Cathy McKinney
Prerequisite: Core Dance, Core Voice, Core Drama
Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind opportunity to sharpen your skills as a versatile actor, singer, and dancer. Perform your favorite scenes and musical numbers from Once Upon a Mattress. Gain new confidence, energy and emotional honesty while perfecting your performance technique.
**Improv - Advanced Drama (12-18)
Teacher: Andrew Coopman
Prerequisite: Core Drama
Create drama, humor, and stories on the spot. This class will give you the basic principles of improvisation and give you the confi- dence to embrace everything that is thrown at you when you don't have a script in your hands. Learn team building skills that will strengthen your ability to play with your partners on stage. In this class that solely focuses on short-form improv, you will learn how to live in the moment and confidently say “Yes!” to anything. See note below.
Additional Class Information
We are pleased to be offering Christmas Quartets and Improv – Advanced Drama for this fall session. Please note the following information if interested in these classes.
*Christmas Quartets:
This is an auditioned class that will be accepting approxi- mately 12 students. If you are interested in Quartets, please also include a 2nd choice class. Additional time will be required as the class will include approximately 6-8 performance op- portunities in the community and may also include extra re- hearsal time if needed. If a student is not accepted into quartets, the student will be placed in the 2nd choice class. There will be no refunds.
**Improvathon
Improv –Advanced Drama is structured to also be the pre- requisite for audition and acceptance as part of the 2011 Spo- kane Improvathon Team. Auditions for the Improv Team will be held after the first of the year. If accepted to the team, it is required that the students participate in the Improv Team Prep Class held in the Spring of 2011. This will be in prepa- ration of participating at the CYT National Conference Im- provathon for 2011. Please note there will be additional cost for the trip.
